Foscarini is the contemporary voice of Italian lighting design. Founded in Murano, Venice, in 1981, it has no furnace of its own: it develops each project with specialised suppliers, a freedom that has taken it from blown glass to polymers and composite fibres. The range is built on contemporary designer projects. The Lumiere by Rodolfo Dordoni (1990) was the brand's first major success: a blown-glass diffuser on a stemmed base. The Twiggy by Marc Sadler is the floor lamp with a long, flexible fibreglass arm and adjustable counterweights. The Caboche by Patricia Urquiola and Eliana Gerotto is made of transparent PMMA spheres that multiply the light like a string of pearls.
