Are you about to start furnishing your new home and are you looking for useful advices? We can't tell you how to furnish, but we can tell you how NOT to furnish. Are you thinking about the advices you got from your parents and relatives? Well, forget everything. No more clichés about furniture, the usual stereotypes about which curtains to choose or which chairs to combine with the table; modern trends in interior design have cleared old stereotypes about how to furnish a house. No furniture along the walls or room packages: furnishing a house nowadays allows us to give free rein to our imagination, thanks to an interior design in continuous evolution that proposes always new and modern ideas.

Here is a series of clichés of furniture to be avoided today:

1. The chairs must all be the same and coordinated with the table

Modern trends are more oriented towards the use of different chairs in shape, color and material. It is not necessary to look for a series of chairs to match the table, but you can create a very personal collection of chairs all different, for a less static and more pop effect. How can we not fall in love with the solution proposed in the following image? Don't be afraid to dare and experiment!

2. The armchairs must be combined with the sofa

The subject is similar to point 1. Try to avoid trivial sets and combinations. Many people are used to buying sofas and armchairs in one set, but the current trend is completely different. Choose armchairs that are different from the sofa and vice versa, as long as the solution you buy recalls something in the room such as colour, material or fantasy. Express yourself in this sophisticated modern choice.

3. Total white furniture is cold

It's true, total white can give an environment an aseptic and uncomfortable appearance, but this effect can easily be avoided with the use of warm materials and shades such as wood for the floor, accessories in neutral tones of dove grey and cream and colored textiles. In this way, the white on the walls will help to make the room more airy and visually larger! Remember that there are no longer any taboos for the use of colours on the walls, so forget about the clichés of white as a cold colour and black as an oppressive colour.

4. Buying the room package

It may seem like a practical and quick solution, but definitely not original. The interior designer recommends not to buy immediately all the furnishings of a room, moreover coordinated: let's say STOP to the usual traditional bedside tables! Why not use designer shelves or small tables instead? There are so many ideas from which to draw inspiration.

5. Placing furniture along walls

Absolutely wrong! Old stereotypes teach us that placing furniture as long as possible along the walls will save space in the house, but this could only prove correct in very small rooms. If not, placing furniture spaced out or even in the middle of the room may help to delimit specific areas, avoiding large unused gaps in the middle of the room. A modern arrangement of furniture will give the house a more sophisticated and lively look.

6. In the bathroom you have to use tiles

Pastel colors and tiles on the walls are the two most famous commonplaces. The coverings on the market today are very resistant, so they are also suitable for the bathroom. Why not try stone-like coatings, cement or even wood? They will make your bathroom incredibly elegant, modern and stylish. Pink or blue tiles are just a bad memory.

7. The children's room must have bright colors

Children love colors, so why not color their room like a rainbow? Because children grow up, and when they become teenagers and start to reject their children's room, then you may regret not having thought about it before. It is not strictly necessary to use bright colors for their room, you can have white walls and light furnishings and still be able to create an original and creative environment, just play with furniture, posters and other accessories that stimulate the imagination of children, without necessarily creating a circus environment.

8. Don't mix up the patterns

Come on, what a boring world would it be like that? Of course you don't have to exaggerate, but a little imagination is enough to get amazing results. You just need to find a main theme, such as color or fabrics, to be able to indulge in that idea.

Now that you know what you DO NOT have to do to furnish your new home, do you think your ideas are clearer? Let us know what you think of our advices!
