Tolomeo is Artemide's most widely used lighting system, designed by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina and awarded the Compasso d'Oro in 1989. The principle is a fully articulated arm, with visible springs that balance the movement and an adjustable diffuser: a lamp you position with one finger and that stays where you leave it. From that principle came a whole family, from the desk to the ceiling.
The Tolomeo family
The same mechanism comes in many versions. Choose the Tolomeo table lamp for a desk or study, the Tolomeo floor lamp beside an armchair or as a reading light, the Tolomeo wall lamp to free up the surface, the Tolomeo suspension over the table. The Tolomeo LED integrates the light source for lower consumption, while the Tolomeo Mega brings the same proportions to a large scale for wide spaces.
How to choose
Tolomeo's strength is precisely adjustable directional light: neutral (3500–4000K) with high CRI, it is ideal for reading and work. For a desk, the table version with base or clamp; for a reading corner, the floor version; for a bedside or hallway, the wall version; over the dining table, the suspension. Polished aluminium is the classic finish; black, white and other finishes are also available.
