Sleeping well is essential for our physical and mental well-being: it helps us to face better the day and puts us in a good mood. A poor sleep quality can generate a series of problems such as stress. Just a few small changes can help you sleep better: for example, the room must be fresh and never exceed 18 ° and must be as far away from sources of noise. Neutral tones and soft lines help reconcile sleep; finally, quality mattresses and beds are preferred. There are many factors that influence rest, not everyone agrees on some of them. Surely, the most discussed is the position of the bed in the room.
We have some tips to choose the ideal position of the bed, but first, you need a brief introduction: the right place for the bed is where you feel more comfortable. The arrangement of the furniture always depends on your house characteristics and, even if some rules can help us choose, sometimes an interior designer might have a clearer understanding of the needs and professional experience than a theory of Feng Shui or an architectural rule.
This are some of the most common theories concerning the position and orientation of the bed to improve sleep.
1. Sleep with your head to the north
When sleeping with the head to the north, the positive pole of the body coincides with the negative one of the Earth and is in the ideal position for a good magnetic and energetic rebalancing. Having the headboard to the north ensures a better elimination of toxins and encourages the activation of an unwitting process of thought processing, which often leads to the clarification of ideas.
2. The headboard of the bed must be against the wall
In my opinion, this is not always the best solution - it depends on how the bedroom and adjacent rooms are built. In Feng Shui, it is assumed that positioning the head against the wall positively influences the flow of life energy. Except when the gas or water pipes pass through the wall, producing annoying noises. In fact, many interior designers today offer innovative and modern solutions, such as the bed in the middle of the room or even suspended.
3. The entire room must be visible from the bed
Humans, like other mammals, have a basic need to sleep in a place where they feel safe. Unconsciously, this necessity also affects the tranquility of our dreams and leads us to position the bed away from "unsafe" areas such as doors or windows. However, even placing the bed on the same wall as the door can be advantageous, since it prevents potential intruders from seeing if there is anyone or is awake.
4. When lying down, your feet should not be facing the door
In some regions, especially of the Islamic religion, the fact that the feet should not indicate the direction of the door during sleep is considered an unwritten law. Showing the soles of the feet is considered very rude to any guests. There is another reason why we tend to avoid this position of the bed, of a much more superstitious nature: if a coffin is taken out of a room, the first part of the body that exceeds the threshold is the feet, instead of the head. But let's leave the funeral aside and move on to the next point, definitely more pleasant!
5. Looking towards the panorama
If you have large windows with a dream view, it would be natural to place the bed in order to enjoy the best of the landscape. However, aligning the bed with the window can be disadvantageous, because the morning light shines much more intensely on our sleepy eyes.
Furthermore, some scholars believe that "the bedroom should be an area of protection for sleep". This means that you have to avoid all sorts of distractions, including computers, televisions, books and even the landscape.
In short, the opinions on the arrangement of the bed inside the room are many and often conflicting. Nobody has the perfect sleep recipe, but there are many tips to try.
